Chapter Five

Zari’s fingers moved swiftly across her screen, typing up one of the longest messages she ever had. She frowned thinking how if she sent the message, Flip wouldn’t even reply. That thought pissed her off, so she erased all that sappy shit and huffed in annoyance while locking her phone.

“What’s the matter with you? You’ve had an attitude all day.” Misani told her from the driver’s seat.

Zari smacked her lips. “Flip. He calls himself still mad at me. I didn’t even do shit.”

“You think you didn’t do shit; he does. You better take that man’s feelings into consideration,” Misani chuckled.

“I do, but damn. He spazzed on me and to be for real that hurt. I’m just getting somewhat cool with Zeek and here he comes wanting to throw us not being together in my face. I thought what we were doing was fine.”

“It was and now it’s not. You gon’ be sad if he messes around and settles down with another woman and cut your ass off.”

Zari’s eyes rolled. “Imagine that.”

“Okay,” Misani laughed. “You think I’m playing.”

“No, I don’t. I hear you.”

“So why you didn’t send him that essay you just typed up?” she questioned.

“Because hoe. If he didn’t respond, I was making you pull up over there.”

Misani laughed. “That’s out the way sweetie.”

The duo was headed to Nebraska Furniture Mart. Misani was in the mood to redecorate her house and pick a few things up for Keegan’s new crib. She’d given her every dime back and Misani was going to splurge a little bit on her for the solid move. Zari tagged along not wanting to be cooped up in the house thinking of Flip.

“Have you heard anything from Xander?” Zari asked.

Misani shook her head. “Not yet. I’m hoping he has some good news. Carlo has been so down; it’s sad.”

Not letting one mishap ruin the start of something great, Carlo and Misani picked up their relationship where it left off in his office. They’d been on a few dates, had some late-night fuck sessions, and even some heart to heart ones. She tried keeping him in good spirits but both of their minds always ventured to what could have happened to his sister.

Misani was thankful he’d heard her out cause she really liked him. It’d been a long while since she felt anything for a man, and Carlo did it for her. He was the perfect hood gentleman with just enough boss in his pedigree to have her attention solely on him. Any other men couldn’t get her to look twice their way.

“I bet you it’s some sneaky shit. You should’ve called Xavier to see what was up.”

“I thought about that, but I’ll just let Xander handle everything. Nothing like this has ever happened so I’ll leave it to them to figure out what went wrong.”

Zari agreed. They’d both been shocked by what went down, but knew it’d come to light soon. The two had spoken Xander up because his name popped up on Misani’s dashboard. He normally never called her, just sent a simple text.
